Submitter: How to reach your favorite superstar? In the case of Kobe an ouija board?

Holly: Oh, now, this is just sad. The one website listed in the examples submitted (See Rosie O’Donnell below) is defunct, and that was the only one with a URL given at all. I admit I’ve never heard of some of these folks, but just try and get ahold of ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, or 98 Degrees. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

  1. Kobe: no longer in this world
Mark McGwire: I don’t know if anyone other than the most hardcore ⚾️ fan even remembers him any more, and his day was the heyday of steroids

  2. I recognized all the names except Jake Lloyd and Rebecca Lobo. Lloyd was Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace but quit acting due to mental health issues. Lobo was one of the original stars of WNBA.

This is a strange assortment of people whose common denominator must be that there was a mailing address to be found.

  3. Nowadays I think the kids find the celebs on Twitter or Instagram, so this book would be completely useless even if it wasn’t out of date.

I think the various boy bands have gotten back together, so you could probably reach them through their websites.

Kids today wouldn’t even know who half those people are! I’m not sure about a couple of them myself.

  4. I think today it would be “Get an IMDB Pro account”…………… at least if you REALLY have any business “contacting” some star………..

  5. I was a teenager when this book came out, so I recognized almost every name. Terrell Davis the only exception. It seems to me now that not all these would appeal to kids/teens, but then again I must have been somewhat interested in them at the time.

My friends and I watched Ally McBeal really diligently (Callista Flockhart), which in retrospect seems kind of bizarre for teens. So I guess what I’m saying is I don’t understand what young people like, even though I used to be one!

    1. Teens watching Ally McBeal makes sense to me. From Futurama, a song about fake show Single Female Lawyer: “Single Female Lawyer, fighting for her clients / Wearing sexy miniskirts and being self-reliant.” Teens wanted to see young women living on their own and working (and having relationships).
