Beautiful for Thee

Ladies! Here is your inspiration to be the very best woman you can be! Dressing nicely and keeping your house clean will make your man, and God, love you all the more. Stay away from those sad feminists! They are going to be distracting you with all that talk of “doing your own thing” and equal rights. Remember, Jesus loves ladies that know “their place.”
Mary
Wow – it scares me that anyone used to think like this. Ick!
Ahem. Comma use, Mary.
“[B]ut because she had come out of that place women are supposed to be in – being a submissive person…”
I think I just died a little inside reading that… 🙁
I assure you that if my stay at home husband dressed nicely and kept the house clean, I would be ecstatic.
Depressingly not that different from some books on the same topic today.
My wife and I have much the same side-of-the-bed difference as the author and her couple, but I figure she’s entitled to keep her books in whatever disorder works for her.
Maybe it’s because I’m gay. Maybe it’s because I’m agnostic. Maybe it’s because I was raised by 4 women. I don’t know, but this kind of BS really, REALLY disturbs me. That men AND women thought like this and, far too sadly, still DO, just boggles the mind. And then to wrap in all that “god told you to”…the mind reels!
Was this in a library collection?
I don’t agree with the advice given, but know several woman who do. They are happy and their marriages work.
If both partners are happy with it, then who am I do criticize? It wouldn’t work for me, but it works for some couples.
I will agree with the advice on “little things.” It takes such a small amount of effort to do them, why not do them if it bothers our partners? Stop squeezing the toothpaste from the middle. Hang the toilet paper “backwards.” Little things are the things that bother us, nag at us. Be considerate.
Mantramoon, take a look around the web. There are LOTS of people who still think like this. 🙁
Funny I should read this post while watching PBS’ Makers: Women Who Make America…
God, I wish I could say this type of thinking was left behind in 1978 but it’s alive and well today in some Christian denominations. Yuck.
What IS a sword jubilee? Or should I ask a man?
I nominate this as a candidate for the worst of 2013 list.
While I’m reading this, my guy is doing the dishes while making supper, and I’m lounging around in my pjs. The future is here 🙂
If anyone wants to brush up, there’s a jubilee coming up in April…

“Man is…99% ego”. What an unpleasant thing to say. You know the wrong kind of men, lady.
I imagine it has something to do with the Bible as the “sword” of God.
I showed this to a Biblical scholar, who said, “I have nothing to say about this, except that’s the WORST interpretation of Proverbs 31 I have ever heard!”
Sweet! The Jubilee features a ventriloquist dummy with a unibrow! Can’t miss that.
I find this line of thinking about the role of women in marriage and the world offensive as well.
But the fact is that is a publication by a group with active membership. As mel pointed out, they have a conference scheduled next month.
Now, maybe this book is outdated and there is newer material available. And maybe this doesn’t fit the needs of the customer base of the particular library that owns it. But getting rid of a book solely because you don’t like its message isn’t any different from censoring One Dad, Two Dads, Brown Dad, Blue Dads or And Tango Makes Three.
