Wow! That is a lot of look. If it is all denim, that has to be a very heavy caftan. I remember that caftans were big in the late 60s and 70s. I think it was probably fading by 1977. My grandmother always sported a green caftan for Christmas dinner. I think she had the same one for more than 20 years. I can’t imagine a single reason that a public library would hold on to this book. (If not for the sake of patrons, how about for fashion?)

Lose the dangerous sleeves and it could be an engineer’s overcoat or a labcoat!

It would be a decent bathrobe without the humongous sleeves.
It’s the kimono you wear for a beer ceremony.
It is a kimono, or a Western interpretation of one. They are often pretty heavy so maybe making one out of denim wouldn’t be too much of a change in that respect.
