Advice from Zsa Zsa

Youngsters, you probably don’t remember the Gabor sisters. They were kind of like proto-Kardashians. Zsa Zsa and her sister Eva were Hollywood glitterati from the old days. Both sisters racked up quite a few husbands and had minor acting credits. (Eva, probably the best known from the show Green Acres, and both showed up on the old Hollywood Squares occasionally.) Zsa Zsa gives all her womanly advice in this rather uninteresting book of quotes. I get the feeling this was more publicity stunt than actual book. She even states on the inside flap that the advice is “inconsistent” and “not logical.” No argument here.

Excuse me while I retrieve my feather boa from the dry cleaner.

  1. I actually found this amusing and kind of refreshing. I mean, “the best way to attract a man immediately is to have a magnificent bosom and a half-size brain and let both of them show”? That’s true, although the rest of us hate to admit it. It might not be the best way to KEEP him, but she’s got the first part right. I also like that she doesn’t go on to recommend bosom enlargement.

    1. Yeah, I hate to say it, but— she called it like she saw it and girl kinda has a point.

    2. Having neither of those things, and having been single since 2007, I have to ruefully agree, Heather. I also agree with what she says about breast enlargement. I think it’s easier to go out with leg men 🙂

  2. I don’t suppose this was cataloged in Humor? Between the “magnificent bosom and a half-sized brain” and the section on Spend Your Way to Happiness, she surely knew how silly this was. Maybe she needed some more money to spend on getting to happy……

  3. Sorry, I can’t comment on Zsa Zsa. I’m too busy having retroactive spasms as I try to forget “Green Acres” again. Good Lord and butter, how I loathed that show.

    “Proto-Khardasians” is exactly right.

    1. Hey, Green Acres was funny. It’s not like it was Hogan’s Heroes. God, who thought of that? “I’ve got a GREAT idea! Let’s make a COMEDY about a bunch of POWs in a Nazi Germany controlled camp!”

And then there was F Troop….

    2. My favorite episode was the jewel thieves hid their loot in the cereal boxes. Arnold the pig got a diamond necklace.

  4. I had no idea there were sister Gabors’, I always though Zsa Zsa was the one on Green Acres!

  5. Zsa Zsa is more of a proto-Hilton than Kardashian, considering she was married to Conrad Hilton from 1942-1947, and her daughter, Francesca, was Paris and Nicky’s great-aunt!!

Also, there was a 3rd Gabor sister, Magda, who I always think of as the one that didn’t quite take. I don’t think she got as much attention as Zsa Zsa and Eva, but had some degree of fame/notoriety for a time.

  6. Eva Gabor was in Disney’s “The Rescuers”, which I didn’t realize until I recently re-watched it with my toddler. I always liked her character.

  7. I’m not sure if I’d read the whole book but the quotes are pretty funny. At least she’s more funny than the Kardashians (and has never used the hashtag #trulyblessed).
