Time to Stop Smoking!

The Stop Smoking Book for Teens
Casewit
1980

This lovely gem features some super interesting “facts” about smokers: Smoking isn’t cool, non-smokers have better grades than smokers, and non-smokers evidently make questionable fashion choices. (See first picture below.) Generally, this book is more about how you shouldn’t start in the first place rather than helpful information on quitting. Probably not the best choice even back in 1980.

  • Even if this gem was informative, even I know stop smoking aids have changed in the last 35 years, and I’ve never smoked.

  • Even the advice about quitting that the book DOES have doesn’t seem very good! Don’t ask your parents. Instead, follow this one specific plan, which may or may not be available in your area and is almost certainly affiliated with the author of the book…how odd.

  • I’ve got a cold right now so I’m really glad I never smoke, because I don’t want to know what it feels like sucking down smoke when your throat feels like you’ve swallowed steel wool. Yes, I do know they used to sell mentholated cigarettes for such things. Those were some crazy times.

    • The menthol smokes were not just for people with colds. Not sure it would have helped much anyway. Yes, it was painful smoking with a sore throat. I usually stopped till I felt better… and one time I just never started again.

  • I want to know what happened in the cafeteria! Don’t leave us hanging!! And how about the caption under the second picture “Maybe” its smarter not to smoke??

  • I dunno, the photo of the kid on the corner smoking looks pretty cool….

  • The eyes of the girl on page 58 scream “Don’t let this guy in cutoff jorts kiss me!”
