The Wasted Years
Stearn
1968 (original copyright 1959)

Earlier this year we published a post about teen sex depravity, or what I like to call “nonfiction erotica.” A serious subject is presented with “facts” and reporting that is salacious at best. This book is no different. A quick search says that Stern made a career of writing these kinds of books. I actually get a kick out of these old books, mostly for interesting cover art and the sensational headlines and book blurbs. Evidently this teen mayhem was ubiquitous during the 50s.  Reading these books makes me really question what my mother was doing as a teen in the 1950s

Shocking indeed!

  1. Wow. Just wow. People can say what they want about teens (including me), but this is one major case of sensationalism.

  2. I collect old books, and have a few sensationalistic ones from the late 1800s/early 1900s. One is called “Fighting Modern Devils that Destroy Our Homes,” and covers matters such as dance halls, evil foreign fruit shop and ice-cream shop owners who entrap young women, and exotic foreigners who teach Yoga.

    Gotta watch that gelato!

    1. Another one is “The Secrets of the Great City”. Published right after the Civil War, it is 76 (!) chapters about the various ills of the city, including the “social evil”.
