Must we bus?

Must We Bus: Segregated Schools and National Policy
Orfield
1978

Submitter: The book is from 1978, and while we’re sure it was very well-researched (coming from a prestigious outfit like the Brookings Institution), the topic is, well, a bit out of date.

Holly: Yes, it is.  It belongs in a special collection in a university or archive, but not in the majority of public libraries out there that own it.  This topic is an important piece of American history, so I’m not suggesting we toss it and forget about it.  Put it where researchers can use it and the information can be archived.

  1. I’m getting on the archive bandwagon (I almost wrote bus) for this one. There should be book(s) on the subject of racial integration of schools that can be acquired to replace this in a public collection.
