Real Men Like Poetry

rough men tough men cover

Rough Men, Tough Men
Poems of Action and Adventure
Cole, ed.
1969

This book caught my eye for both the title and the cover art. I think  the orange pirate look on the guy is a bit creepy. I also want to remind the editor that ladies can be rough, tough and appreciate a bit of blood and gore in their poetry as well.

The poetry itself is from a variety of authors, including Shakespeare, Tennyson and Swift. There is a lot of good stuff here, but the packaging is geared to elementary school boys from the late 1960s.

A Man Explains Women’s Lib to the Guys

male guide to women's liberation

Male’s Guide to Women’s Liberation
Marine
1972

This book is interesting and it seems surprisingly insightful. Marine wrote for the Nation and Ramparts Magazine on social justice topics. This is probably a good pick for a research/academic library but for public libraries, not so much. Old timers my age might find it somewhat interesting. I could make a point about the fact that I feel like I have been discussing this for most of my life and progress is not coming as fast as I would like. #oldfeminist

How to Avoid Matrimony
Froy
1957

Okay all you rogue males, you don’t want to be trapped by the ladies looking for marriage. This guy has you covered with some interesting advice so you can avoid having the life sucked out of you by some airhead or harpy out to trap you into marriage.

Naturally you can’t be going with out feminine companionship, but you want to avoid certain kinds of women.  For example: girls with boring factory jobs, because they have boring factory jobs; divorced women because they are kind of desperate; foreign girls, girls with pushy mothers, etc. Be vigilant!

Best part: all the charts and illustrations so you really can visualize your bachelor strategies.

Time for me to round up some rogue males,

Mary
